After a year, the DINNOCAP project has come to an end, but it will not be the end of digital innovation capacity building in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR).

The final DINNOCAP Conference "From Plan to Practice!" took place on the 7th and 8th of December to explore together the success, recent developments, and challenges in the field of Real-Time Economy (RTE).

The conference brought together project partners, policymakers, collaboration partners, and others from the BSR private and public sector interested in digitalization and developing efficient RTE systems for logistics, data-driven reporting, eReceipt, and the KYC field. We were happy to host a total of about 130 participants from 14 countries, both on-spot and online.

Some great takeaways from the conference by Kristi Talving, Deputy Secretary-General for Business and Consumer Environment at Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia:

  • We might not have the golden spoon, but we have mapped the obstacles that hinder the digitalization of SMEs. SMEs now have a tool (https://www.diginnotool.eu/) to measure their digitalization level and plan the next steps forward.

  • Not only big companies are targeted by cyberattacks, but also a great number of SMEs. If we’re not good at cyber security, we cannot be digital. We have to invest in security.

  • Currently, there are too many differences in the KYC processes in-between countries, which hinders businesses to go cross-border. Businesses are already interested in new tools and technologies, cost-effective harmonized KYC procedures, but the legislation is not yet ready for such tools. We need to be technology-neutral and harmonize the rules, in order to see the new cross-border solutions appear within upcoming years.

  • We need to create trust in data-driven reporting. Trust starts from clear rules and regulations, but also we need the faith that the rule of law will uphold. In data-driven reporting entrepreneurs, themselves decide with whom and what kind of information is shared.

  • eReceipt helps us to have security for the need to prove the purchase or report costs, it’s easy and invisible. The invisible background process needs data standardization and integration, which we should continue working on together in the EU.

  • Through digitalization in the logistics sector (eCMR), we also help other sectors to reach the goal of a Real-Time Economy.

  • The DINNOCAP project is coming to an end, but the outcomes and tools for SMEs will continue to improve to increase digitalization. Next year, we’re going from practice to delivery.

During the conference, a video summary of the Baltic-Nordic eCMR indexing prototype version 2.0 was presented, which was created as a part of the DINNOCAP project.

The project DINNOCAP focused on advancing the digital economy in the Baltic Sea Region, such as promoting the uptake of ICT in the business sector, promoting transnational interoperability via innovative public cross-border e-services, and supporting institutional capacity building to sustain these developments

The DINNOCAP team is happy to share that the project outcomes are currently finalized and uploaded to the project’s website shortly.
